Extrastaff have an exciting opportunity with their client as a Production Manager. The Production Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of the workshop, ensuring production is delivered safely, efficiently, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The role oversees workshop operations, people management, production planning, health and safety compliance, stock control, and continuous improvement, while supporting the development of apprentices and maintaining excellent customer delivery performances 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • - Take full responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the workshop, ensuring production targets, customer deadlines and quality standards are achieved.
  • - Plan, schedule and monitor production activities using the company ERP system, ensuring efficient use of labour, materials and resources.
  • - Lead, motivate and manage workshop teams, including performance management, training, recruitment support and apprentice development.
  • - Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation, company procedures and high standards of housekeeping across the workshop.
  • - Monitor production quality, identify issues and implement corrective actions to maintain exceptional workmanship standards.
  • - Manage Goods In/Goods Out operations, including stock control, material traceability, packing, storage and delivery planning.
  • - Review drawings and cutting lists, providing technical joinery expertise and resolving production queries.
  • - Maintain effective systems for machinery, FLT and tool maintenance, ensuring safe and reliable operation.
  • - Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance workshop efficiency, productivity and operational performance.
  • - Work collaboratively with management and other departments to support successful project delivery and meet customer expectations.
  • Essential requirements as a Production Manager:

  • - Proven experience in a Production Manager, Workshop Manager, Manufacturing Manager or similar leadership role within joinery, woodworking or a related manufacturing environment.
  • - Strong technical knowledge of joinery manufacturing processes, materials, drawings and production documentation.
  • - Experience managing production teams, improving performance and delivering projects to deadlines.
  • - Strong understanding of Health & Safety requirements and safe workshop practices.
  • - Excellent planning, organisation, problem-solving and communication skills, with experience using ERP/MRP systems.
  • Desirable requirements as a Production Manager:

  • - NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Bench Joinery, Carpentry & Joinery or a related discipline.
  • - IOSH Managing Safely, NEBOSH or other Health & Safety qualification.
  • - Experience with lean manufacturing, continuous improvement or process optimisation.
  • - Experience managing apprentices and developing skilled craftspeople.
